You can find a mod to do almost anything, from just double the sizes of garrisons to convert it entirely into a sort of Mediaeval III. What really makes it an outstanding game is the mods. Think Barbarian Invasion II but better in every way imaginable. It's immersive, invigoratingly difficult in places, atmospheric and very rewarding when you complete certain goals.
This is one of the top five games I've ever played. TLDR: possibly the best military strategy game ever made.
